My name is Arvella Clare. I am a native Floridian, born in Lakeland, Florida. My hard working parents were married for 45 years. My parents provided a comfortable lifestyle even though neither completed middle school. However, they struggled to ensure that I received the best education possible and the opportunity to pursue my dreams. They knew that education was the only way that I could achieve my dreams. I graduated from public high school and went to Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida where I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I continued my education at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, where I received a Master's Degree in Community Psychology. After graduating, I worked for ten years as a counselor, and as a consultant at a youth facility for boys. I also supervised a social services program in Fort Myers, FL.
After marrying my husband Darryl Clare, we moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 2000. We have two daughters, ages 14 and 11 that attend public schools in Lee County. I currently serve on the School Advisory Council (SAC) and District Advisory Council (DAC) for the Lee County School System. My educational background and professional experience gives me a unique skill set that will serve to address the needs and the problems that face our students. The fact that I have two daughters in the school system means I have a public and a personal commitment in our educational process.
Now it is my time to use what I have accomplished, to make my vision a reality. My goal is to give back to the community that supported me. I want to give my children and your children the opportunity to achieve their dream. Join me in making this dream come true.
I am concerned that our teacher’s rank 47 in pay with other states that are third from the bottom.
I am concerned that we are being mandated to have a “bookless system with all students having a computer without a plan to address this change.
I am concerned that the 2012-2013 school budget is $1,328,024.00 and we are not able to offer all children the same opportunities.
I am committed to bring the quality of education to all schools to the level that we have achieved in our charter school partners.
Everyone deserves a good education. That is the basic right that we all have fought for in our own way.
The race for school board will likely be decided in the primary. It is a nonpartisan race, so everyone can vote. It is a countywide race, so all school board members are elected by you and are accountable to you. It is not only important to those parents with children in our schools, but to all of us because it is our tax dollars. They need to be spending them wisely.
Local businesses need a workforce that can fill the position for skilled and high paying jobs. New businesses looking to move to the area need a skillful workforce to fill these new jobs and quality schools for their children. Our children must be prepared for the future.
Now I must ask for your help, your support, to enable me to get my message out. I am asking you to invest in me by writing a check to support my effort to become your voice on the school board.
I will do my part by knocking on doors and meeting with groups whenever there is an opportunity.
